If Earth and Mars switched place, why would days last one hour longer?

Earth would still be the same size, so wouldn't there be more days because rotating over the Sun would take longer? I really don't know anything about astrology.

Days mostly have to do with how fast a planet is rotating around itself, and not with the orbit around the sun

There's no relation between distance and the day length (rotation about axis). Mars has a longer day, Saturn & Jupiter shorter days, Pluto a longer day, etc. I don't think day length would change. Of course it would cause chaos in the dynamics of the solar system as a whole. Planets did migrate in the early solar system so it could fuck with dynamics like it was back then. Who knows some crazy effects could change the day length over time but it's not easily predictable. If I were asked this question that's what I'd focus on, what happened to the dynamics of the system as a whole due to this change.
The author of that appears to be a science journalist not a scientist. Remember Knoll’s law of media accuracy.

the earth rotating is how long our days are. desu it shouldn't rotate slower just from being further away from the sun. We would definitely have more days however.

Mars is 250 million km from the Sun
152 million km = 365 days,
250 million km = 600 days?

Not quite. The length of the day is the time it takes for the planet to rotate around to where the Sun is back where it started. That is slightly longer than it takes to rotate once 360 degrees on the axis --since the planet has moved on a bit in its orbit, it'll have to go 360 degrees and then a little more, making the day a bit longer. Out at mars, the orbital speed around the sun would be less, so the Earth would have to rotate slightly less than it does in this orbit, to complete a solar day.

OK, read OP's link. The guy seems wrong about so many things -- but what struck me was his claim that swapping Mars and Earth would plunge the orbit of the other planets into chaos. This strikes me as unlikely, but I'm not an orbital mechanics guy. Can anybody speak to that -- me saying "Nah, that does not sound right" is not really proof of anything.

All mass in our solar system is tied to each other. If suddenly Mars/Earth switched place, the balance will shift. Not the very next second, but the miniscule changes will take over thousands/millions of years. In which case, the dynamics will change from the initial conditions drastically the longer we wait.
