To reach orbit, you need a delta-V of nearly 10 km/s — that’s ten kilometres per second, mind you — so you’d need 10,000/60 = 166 stages, each of them 5% of the mass of the stage below it. I’m not going to try to work that out, not even the Cat in the Hat could manage that scale of logarithmic progression.
If you were delivering a 1-gram Mento to orbit, the top mento/coke stage would be 20 grams, say the size of a test-tube. The next stage down, stage 165, would be 400 grams; say the size of a can of coke with a 25% bonus. Stage 164 would be 8000 grams, or 8 kilos; call that 4 two-litre bottles strapped together. Stage 163 would be 160 kilos. Stage 162 would be 3.2 tonnes; call it the size of a car. Stage 161 would be 64 tonnes; stage 160, 1280 tonnes, about the size of a Saturn V first stage, and there’s still 159 stages to go. I don’t think there’s enough coke or Mentos in the world to build this.
