Are my prospects of being a math major over if I got a C+ in Calc II even after retaking it? Will later math classes be impossible for me? I want to do good and be able to enjoy math without worrying about my grade. Also, I’m not a soulless NPC and the calc sequences at my college are all tailored towards science and engineer majors. I’m interested in pure maths and proofs.

Are you allowed to take pure math classes? I know some schools limit entry to some branches of their program based on performance. How did you do in linear algebra?

I think so. They offer a couple every semester. My school cut the pure maths concentration which really sucks.

I’m about to take linear algebra next semester.

not really because calc 2 is mostly the class before math gets flipped on its head and is very formula focused tho analysis is going to be hard since you didnt click with calc and thats the major weedout class in math. if you really want to be in math you'll find a way

Calc II is "difficult" when
1. shitty learning material that produces information overload
2. not enough exposure to discrete math (basic symbolic logic, number theory, graph theory, and such) to exercise the kind of mathematical creativity/intuition needed in Calc II (not so much in Calc I).

I don't know why, but calc 2 was the most difficult math class I had taken. Differential equations, multivariate calculus, and linear algebra all seemed much easier when they're all so focused, and calc 2 just seems like a bunch of random end bits everywhere

The way you see math for yourself as your passion and the way you see math in order to pass a class is, in most universities, completely different, because of the way unis work. If you're truly smart you'll find a way of thinking like a "soulless NPC" who sees math as a formula-memorizing game and thrive in the system, but keep the passion for yourself and the people around you who love math as much as you do.

yeah, i hated calc 2 too and had an easier time on the others. for me it felt like the problems were so long so it made it easy to fuck 1 thing up 12 steps back and not know where it went wrong. there's a saying that calc is the class you come to fail algebra in

also the fact that the way calc is designed(calc 1 suffers from this a lot) feels like the opposite of building on itself, like it doesnt make sense until you're at 100%

you probably wont even get into the program.
most majors-- in particular math require 2.5-3.0+ as a baseline before kicking you out or just rejecting you.
did you even read the book? or listen to the lectures? or use your fucking brain?
