>>13336132Dawkins originally introduced the term 'memes' as the neurocognitive counterpart of genes in the sense that memes also seem to exhibit the ability to self replicate by 'infecting' new minds, usually by means of communication. Memes here is usually some kind of thought or slogan. Dawkins originally introduced this concept to explain the rise of religion and religious dogma but the term can be applied to anything. Successful memes replicate easily. Why some memes are more successful than others is a seemingly very complex question, but it has ultimately mostly to do with the neurobiology of the humans. Similarly to how humans are more adept at seeing things when they move, humans are more susceptible to certain kind of memes due to adaptions that have occured during the last few millenia. This susceptibility to certain memes allows humans to readily absorb information that has proven useful during their evolutionary history like discerning movement or distinguishing different colors.
