a tard can do python, there is nothing you will ever learn from python (assuming you already know c) besides syntax and a general feel for untyped languages, you are better off learning some c#/java type thing as a second language and just messing around with python/ruby occasionally

python is the best to learn core concepts like algorithms and data structures which will land you jobs and it saves you time not dealing with syntax and memory headaches. if you just want a job and dont really care about what you do, go with python or another scripting language

C is the best if you really want to learn computers on a deep level. it's the strongest tool kit because you have control over everything that happens, when you're proficient in it, there's no randomness. if you want a close to hardware job or OS work, start here 100%

Yes, C is good because you can try implementing your own data structures using pointers (don't forget to use valgrind and a memory sanitizer!) It can be frustrating (coding in a Linux VM will help, windows and C don't mix) but it will definitely be the fastest way to strengthen the really deep fundamentals. Python is my go to language for quickly trying things out or writing scripts that don't need to run fast or process large amounts of data. It also is nice to learn about objects and classes with all of the abstractions given to you.

Functional programming like Haskell is a very different paradigm of programming that takes a different line of thinking and in my opinion is much more difficult to learn

Real best advice is get good at looking for answers on google, someone else has had the problem you're stuck on you just need to figure out how to word your search properly. You'll never stop looking things up like "pass array to function C" or "how to use valgrind C"

If you want to go even lower level and know how computers work search up Ben Eater on youtube

Cs / SWE here. was in a similar position so I'll give you tips, feel free to ask any questions. Switched majors soph year to CS, worked my ass off and have a very cozy internship now.

Also if you lack the interest to browse topics in /g/ you probably won't survive the major so it's a good baseline. Ignore distrofighting and edrama, focus on the resources

More than likely you will be programming in Java in your first class. Java is easy to read and debug, it's a great starter. Seeing as how you want to make money from SWE and not learn CS out of inherent interest (nothing wrong with that, but it's not the same as CS), I suggest doing the intro CS classes at MIT OCW (they have a good one in python). After that, follow through a data structures curriulum from MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, CMU, or any other well regarded school of the same caliber, followed up by a computer architecture course using CS:APP from one of those schools as well.
These courses are easy and fairly comprehensive of the basics. The materials provided online should be sufficient to do your work.
Once you've done these, you have enough to start tackling interview level questions aside from maybe threading, scheduling, and networking, which you can pick up as time goes on. What you learned in the 3 courses, however, are the basis of 90% of the interview process.

All SWE positions take minimal knowledge to get into, aside from a few like cryptosystems. After that, they train you heavily. It's only around SWE III and higher that you start doing what people commonly refer to as "engineering."

Forgot to mention, once you have the basics, use leetcode, hackerrank, etc., to practice interview style questions. Grinding out the basics is really important because interview questions are designed to be tricky but simple to write out.

then you'll need to be ready to study a lot more math and be ready to get into whatever adjacent fields of engineering and/or science you find interesting. Lots of heavy hitters have CS backgrounds, but they're way above the rest. If you really want to learn CS, you have to first identify what parts of it you find really interesting, so you can plan on how much math you'd like to learn.

CS is maybe 1/3 math heavy. On the lowest levels there would be:
Math: optimization and computability
Programming: languages and compilers
Databases: SQL, DMBS and DSBS.
Both physics and statistics are at least equally heavy on maths.
