The West got rid of protoscientific concepts like the aether and the four humors when these were found to be untenable. Meanwhile, the East still holds onto protoscientific concepts like qi, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and chakras.
This wasn't a problem for science, since the Western world (i.e. Europe and later the United States) has always remained the scientific capital of the world since the end of the Islamic Golden Age. (In fact, given the size of the Umayyad Caliphate during the time of the Islamic Golden Age and the reliance of the falsafa on Greek texts, it could be argued that the Islamic Golden Age was also part of the "Western world".)
Dear GOD/GODS and/or anyone else who can HELP ME (e.g. MEMBERS OF SUPER-INTELLIGENT ALIEN CIVILIZATIONS): The next time I wake up, please change my physical form to that of FINN MCMILLAN of SOUTH NEW BRIGHTON at 8 YEARS OLD and keep it that way FOREVER. I am so sick of this chubby Asian man body! Thank you! - CHAUL JHIN KIM (a.k.a. A DESPERATE SOUL)
However, many analysts believe that is poised to change in the near future. For the first time ever, science could become divorced from its Western roots and led by a country (China) with no basis on Western philosophical thought. And even if China fails to become the scientific capital of the world, the combined might of China and India with their massive populations alongside Japan and South Korea might be enough to wrestle it from Western hands.
