There is actually not that much difference between computers and organic life. I think the only thing that makes life distinguishable from a stone is its ability to store and process information and influence the future. Basically life is capable of perceiving and using time. A stone cannot. A computer can perceive time. Thus you could say a computer is as alive as any organic beeing.
