I want to know how to make a magnet. Some weak induction is possible using earths magnetic field. Also potato battery if you have access tow two different metals. Also static electricity generator a la Van Der Graff using a leather belt rubbing against something.

They can generate a current. I guess pulsed current, as a series of sparks when the generator discharges. Imagine you charge it more and more until dielectric breakdown and then a spark happens. It could power a solenoid used to magnetize an iron rod so you can get permanent magnets.

I picked the Romans because they had a large, well governed state that would be a good recipient for modern technologies.

The Greeks were cool but all of their polities were tiny and wouldn't really benefit from things like railroads and telegraph lines.

Abrams have reserve batteries so the turret and weaponry can be operated without the engine running for quite some time.

Even then, there are manual cranks which can move the turret and fire the gun when the battery runs out.

The legionaries would probably still win through sheer numbers.

Only thing I could think of is trying to start some empire using some peasants or a starting a family away from main civilization and keeping some sort of book of knowledge for my descendants in order to navigate the coming years.
