This idea that science can't answer religious questions like the existence of God is far from some American thing. In fact I think Kant would basically agree with the sentiment of the article. If anything, I see a dangerous trend of american pop-scientists trying to build some religious cosmology out of psuedo-science; they try to explain consciousness and free will with quantum mechanics, conjecture alternate universes, speculate about the interiors of black holes and the beginning of the universe, when what real experiments can they conduct to justify these claims? and TV science programs might try to explain the origins of life on earth with scientific authority, but any serious biologist or geologist will admit they have no idea. Even something as banal as certain meteorological phenomena are still very poorly understood, with ball lightning being well documented but unexplained.

In the mainstream of our ostensibly secular society, people often refer to science as some monolithic, real entity, with real objective authority, as if "Science" in this context were some religious doctrine itself. Yet they forget that science is made of fallible people with interests and biases. Popular science literature is often some sort of ad or nationalistic propaganda. Economics is a pseudoscience but it's the basic principle by which western governments are managed. So maybe "Science" should address these problems before people like you start criticizing religion. At least religious people are honest about their blind faith.

However, having no consensus or conclusive proof for everything right now does not really give any leeway to religion. Evolution at it's time was not on such great grounds as it is today. Meanwhile religions have hardly gotten better at explaining the universe. And most religious explanations are rather vague.

UFOs exist almost tautologically, anything flying in the sky that cannot be identified with certainty is a UFO. So until we can figure out everything we've observed flying around in the sky, UFOs will exist.
