Can jumping actually make you faster?

I've wondered this question for as long as I can remember but I've never found the answer.
I feel faster when I jump forward and I gain more momentum, and it's not as exhausting as running, but when you're running you zip around the ground and it seems I'm faster because you're not wasting any time in the air. Still, I really just can't figure it out.
I hoped someone here who knows more about physics than I do could shed some light on the matter. Thank you!
