Obviously my arrogance is beyond measure even contemplating a solution to dark energy, but I have, no bullshit, had this idea since I was 13. I was hoping someone could point out some huge flaw in my reasoning so I could put my idea to rest.
Everyone knows that dark energy is essentially the universe spatially expanding at an exponential rate over time. What is causing the expansion, and more importantly why is it accelerating?
My idea is that whatever is causing the expansion of space is also causing the acceleration of time. As space expands, the arrow of time goes faster. This causes space to expand even faster, which only make time accelerate more. The expansion is therefore just feeding on itself, and isn't caused by any physical energy.
So perhaps during the early universe, the expansion was just caused by the energy density of space itself, by it's effect on time is what keeps the expansion going far beyond what it should.
Is this idea retarded?
