I have used to be extremely neurotic like a jew up until the age of 21, and then almost suddenly it stopped and I'm not neurotic at all. Even before major exams I don't worry at all.
I honestly don't know what caused the change, since there are so many factors in my life that could have had an influence.
That said, I suspect that a major cause was the incessant bullying I experienced in middle school.
