Loss of life in any capacity is sad, especially if it's preventable, but Jesus Christ, guys. On a naked comparison alone, how are almost any of the responses, either by the general population, the scientific community, or the bureaucracy, meant to be taken seriously or honestly?

Wanted to pose this question to /sci/ because you guys seem relatively level-headed. This is not meant to instigate anything, just a genuine conversation piece and hope for discussion.
