1. Plant trees whose wood is denser than water
2. Cut them down when they're grown and dump them in the sea
3. Plant new trees on the cleared area and repeat

What happens if you keep putting your little wood blocks in the beaker Anon? Eventually the displacement will cause the water to overflow. Good idea if you like wet feet :^)

There's some issues with it, but yes it would work. A better method in my opinion is biochar amended soil. You grow trees, bamboo, or other woody plant, convert it to charcoal, then mix it into soil at around 10% (by weight) to improve that soil.

Well, by how much would the sea rise per Gt of sunk wood? I don't think it would be significant. 1 Gt of wood would have a volume of about one cubic kilometre. About half of the weight is carbon, so 0.5 Gt of sequestered carbon. This amounts to ca. 1.8 Gt of Co2. So, in order to decrease current anual CO2 emissions of about 35 Gt by 25%, you would have to dump 5 Gt of wood in the sea by that method per year. The ocean has a volume of ca. 1.35 billion cubic kilometres, so the 5 Gt of wood would mean the volume would increase by a mere (5/135bn)*100 percent.

technically yes, but it's very slow process (even much slower when you want dense wood) and the fate of dumped wood is uncertain
there are studies using algae instead like Chlorella, that would be incubated in sun-illuminated tanks, that the cell would be harvested and dried

You just have to dump it at a faster rate than it detoriates. How fast does wood degrade in deep sea conditions anyway? It seems that degradation is particularly slow in Antarctic waters at least.

Why throw the lumber in the ocean when you could use it to build an enormous ark, fill the ark with dirt and plants and then anchor it in tropics at some latitude that gets a lot of rain?
