Generally, it's safer to care about others accordingly to their proximity to you. Yourself, your family, your friends, your neighbours, your class, your nation, your race, and so on, with humanity at the end. Because if you care, they tend to care in return and help you out. If they care equally about billions of others they don't have time to help you out.

Feeling proud for the achievements of your family members, your town's football team, the beauty of your country's landscape, we're designed to know these feels. Because it makes us care, and thus helps our survival as a group.
And I won't call you a jew. If you were a jew, you'd be the result of a long line of people who protected their separate culture and instititutions for 2000 years in foreign societies, and you would know all about it.
