plants grow in the same way crystals do, they are not sentient.
fungus has the ability to encrypt information into it's dna as a way of thinking, it might has a decision making process.
theres was a paper in nature about sports in botany that came out about 15 years ago which explains plant mutation

That is the problem u pleb. Many many things in nature have no benefit unless they're coupled with multiple other things that individually serve no benefit and had no reason to evolve in conjunction.

im not sure about that, it's an interesting theory but strange we have never seen it happen in nature. lab settings, sure, but... seems very unlikely to happen in a natural setting. would be nice if we could actually see it happen and the advances we have never truly observed too

We don't know, we don't have a clue, and anybody who says otherwise is lying.
This paper (from a researcher with one of the highest h-indexes in the field of evolutionary biology) actually admits life might be a breakthrough event that would never happen again for many many many lifetimes of the universe... like shaking up a bunch of chemicals in a jar for a few seconds and a living cell pops out by coincidence bc molecules just happened to arrange themselves that way. Yeah, that kind of odds-defying event.

It's funny when people ask these questions they always use a photo of one of the least visually interesting hybrids. Ventrata lacks a lot of the specialized structures that many other plants in the genus do.

A fly had a heart attack and fell on top of the plant. Then the lucky plant that the fly fell on got more vitamins and survived better. Then after enough generations the plant was just really lucky and more flies kept falling on it.

This but unironically. The first "carnivorous" plants were probably just sticky, and if a bug got stuck, some if its nutrients would find their way down to the root system. Then it evolved a way absorbing the nutrients directly where the bug died. Then it evolved more complicated traps.

Pretty much. Nepenthes evolved from a sticky ancestor, As the climate changed and rainfall increased they developed pitchers as a way to protect their prey from being washed away by rain. Flypaper type carnivorous plants are far less prevalent in rainforests and other areas with very heavy precipitation.
