I will be starting uni in September (I'm in Italy so uni is 3+2 and you always do both because 3 years isn't like an undergrad in the us), I chose economics but it's not very math intensive, but the alternative was a degree in statistics that only had 4 economics classes in 3 years(finance doesn't exist as a 3 year program), there are no math intensive economics programs, I'm at a normal public uni in north Italy.
My concern is this, in Italy there are almost no cool finance jobs and they pay like shit, so to be able to go to work abroad, with the intent of getting into the USA by being transferred by a multinational that hired me in Europe, I'm planning on going to Bocconi (Finance) for the last 2 years bc it's the only target school in Italy.
My question is this, if I went to a non-target school the last 2 years to pursue a Quant degree (financial mathematics/financial engeneering) would it still be possible to be hired outside of Italy possibly in an American company?
I'm undecided between pursing being a financial analyst or a Quant in risk management.
Also side question, do you have any experience with economic degrees in Italy?
Because I really like but I'm becoming a bit discouraged since everyone in Italy takes economica at uni just because they dont want do go to work and feel they need to do uni, and the fact is that even if they don't care much about economics alot still manage to pass classes, some random people I know that never cared for economics or finance are doing it first year and passing classes so it seems to have a bit of a low level.
