>>13303537Holy fuck, California has one of the shittiest landscapes in the world, and I say that as someone who has spent several month temporarily living in several areas of California temporarily for work. I can't believe people pay like $1.5 million just to own a literal 2 bedroom bungalow in this shithole. And all the architecture there is like Ikea-tier. You drive around some shitty suburb in the Bay Area, and your still 1 hour+ from downtown wherever, and all you see is neighborhoods packed with these shitty ass 2 bed/1 bath single family homes designed in this cheap faux-modernist design, where everything is like glass and synthetic matte-grey building materials. The homes haves no lawns and there's no grass or trees anywhere in sight, just shrubs and palm trees. And then it only rains in like December and January and February, and then the rest of the year its dry as fuck, and for about 6 months of the year the entire sky is visibly filled with smog from all the pollution, and smoke from forest fires. I would unironically rather move to some 2nd world country in Latin America or Asia than California again.
Pic related is what I'm talking about for reference. You could probably pay like $800k-1mil dollars to get one of these in some suburb like 2 hrs outside of San Francisco/San Jose/LA. You'll be in a shitty unwalkable suburban neighborhood with tract housing in the middle of the literal desert. Alternatively you buy something in the city, but then you are looking at a price tag more like $1-3 million, and in cities in California they basically just let homeless people camp outside and the cops wont do anything, even in the million dollar yuppie neighborhoods (i.e. all of them). So basically you get to choose between the shithole out in the middle of the desert or the shithole in downtown. Either way it will run you somewhere in the neighborhood of $800k-3 mil.
