The only way for humanity to colonize the stars is to create a breeding program for profoundly intelligent people. Designing the systems required to sustain human life over the vast expanses of time required to travel to even the nearest star systems would be a monumentally complicated task only the brightest of our species are capable of. Even then we would need millions of 175+ IQ engineers to design it which can only be accomplished through a breeding program.
