They don't when you're in a cold environment? Last I checked hot chocolate sales rise in the winter, as well as heating blankets...

its because even in a moderately cool room, like 70f, 28 lower than body temp, a healthy adult metabolism puts out more heat than the body can passively dissipate. So by cooling yourself down even if seems like a lot, actually just means your metabolism can work faster and better than if it was still heat soaked. But obviously if you hold an ice cold drink for too long it starts to hurt, because now you're actually taking heat out of your body faster than it can actually produce it. And your metabolism would rather you just move your fucking hand instead of trying to adapt to the sudden change in temperature

lol it does have a choice and yes your metabolism slows down to adjust to the hotter days. And when it gets cold yes it speeds up and you put out way more heat.

Its really potent when you travel from one climate to another.
