Are the modern methods of dentistry actually scientific?

In a field where the more cavities one has the more money a dentist can make off you, isn't this the perfect incentive for harmful dentistry practices?

Dentists don't take a Hippocratic oath like doctors.

Also seems sus when they do a cleaning and literally scrape the outer layer of bone off with a metal scraper... That seems highly unnatural.

Is there a way to promote oral health without this extensive invasive procedures?
