The cheapest new gas car is like 10k while the dirt cheapest battery car you can get is like 4 times that amount. Not to mention most people stick to buying cheap 4k used gas cars. And this is in the developed world mind you.

Cheapest Electric vehicle in my country is four times the price of my 1990's 4WD Diesel with 250k on the clock that cost me just under three grand.

The price will reflect battery wear. If the battery hasn't degraded a lot the price will still be too expensive. If it has then it will be too expensive to replace the battery. Gas cars are just cheaper to make and don't require a lot of rare earth metals and other expensive materials for the motors and batteries. The same fucking thing literally happened in the 20th century. Electric cars used to be like 50% of the cars on the road but died out because they just couldn't compete in cost and simplicity with gas cars after Henry Ford. They will fail again for the same reason.
