>>13268984Because I have no need to be anything else, though it's probably more accurate to say I'm lower middle class than poor.
I work for two years and then take three or four years off. I can only do this because I live a lifestyle that is lower than middle class. Most people in my neighborhood are blue collar workers who have to work 50 hours per week, week after week. Seeing how hard they work inspires me to never be like that. It's a comfy neighborhood because there are no minorities. We're far enough away from any large city that most of the city troubles that require lots of money to be insulated from aren't issues out here. When I lived a yuppie lifestyle in the big city, I lived in a highrise condo with a doorman and 24/7 security. Insurance costs were high. Public transportation was only usable during peak commuting hours, otherwise it was dangerous and unreliable so everyone had to own cars. It was an expensive life to live.
Why would I want to be wealthy when that requires me to spend my life slaving away for money? I have my three bedrooms and half an acre yard, that's enough for me. Yes, my house has vinyl siding, as do the other houses around here. None of our yards are going to be on the cover of House Beautiful. Most men drive trucks that are beat up from actual use. Most women have sedans or crossovers that are at least five years old. No one is trying to impress the world here. It's simple living with few complications.
