How can something be said to exist? This is where science veers into philosophy. It is the same sort of question as "do numbers exist". Space and volume "exist" in the same way that evolution exists, that society exists, that bloodflow exists.
To me, this is indicative of some sort of epistemic limit that humans are either damned to stay inside or will have a very, very tough time breaking through in the upcoming centuries.
