When can I call myself a scientist?

Im a research associate working on two different big physics projects and in a DOE lab, but I’m doing this through my school where I’m a first year PhD student. I have a publication from undergrad as well if that counts

I get paid to do all this work and for my RA, so can I tell people I’m a scientist?
