If you were to compare it to revolvers of the late 19th to the late 20th century, you typically had a much weaker, full metal jacket projectile that was limited to 5 or 6 rounds and a lengthy reload time. Handgun tech is much better nowadays compared to 20 or 30 years ago and unless you can realistically foresee pocket railguns become commonplace within 20 or 30 years from now I dont see how there is a "stagnation"
