Achievements don't outweight moral failings, they are too completely separate things that are irrelevant to the judgments you cast on a person.
For example, if Einstein was discovered to have raped, killed, cooked and eaten children, he wouldn't be glorified and we would give less attention to his personality in relation to his discoveries. He probably did have moral shortcomings, but they are glossed over so people can have an idealistic image of him for the sake of moral simplicity.
