is it really ok to just vent toxic gasses into the atmosphere?
what happens to all the solder fumes and 3d printer fumes once they're in the air?

The earth vents out the same amount of toxic gasses compared to your mom. Just usually through holes in the earths crust such as volcanoes, unerwater jets, etc.

solder fumes and 3d printer fumes of niche hobbyists are probably a fraction of a fraction of the amount of fumes in one day from cruise ships, cargo ships and planes, though I could hardly tell you the math on it

A certain amount of gases also slowly dissipate to space.
Some chemicals will bind with water and fall down in the form of dirty/acid rain. Some bind to physical stuff, like soil and plants.
But you have to know that if you put pestice next to your wallnut tree, then you will get much more poison in your body from the fruits. Concentration is a key part of the story.
