>>13249813Having a fan circulate air in your room without any outside source of fresh, cooler air, will actually make the room hotter over time for two reasons: (1) friction, (2) waste heat from the motor in the fan. The only reason it'll even remotely make you feel cooler is due to your own sweat evaporating, and oh by the way your body heat will also make the room hotter, and your sweat raise the humidity, which makes it *feel* hotter.
What you need to do is set up a fan in another part of the house, in a window, with cardboard or something to create a seal, and the fan blowing air *out*. Then open the window in *your* room, and leave the door partway open. Now you have a 'Poor mans' whole-house fan' setup. You'll get the cooler air from outside (assuming it's actually cooler, that is), and none of the noise from the fan.
