on the other side of the spectrum, you find people who deeply changed society and history and the world through their behavior and ideas, they change society, they are leaders (in any field or activity)
outside of it there are the people that don't partake in societal mechanisms at all, or do but in very small ways
although I doubt there are healthy humans who aren't NPCs to some degrees
even psychopaths like to have sex, socialize, speak a language, work, etc.
even hermits do that
few people go completely outside the NPC spectrum
