That doesn't make it retarded. Even if there is a >0% chance of some sort of eternal hell existing, it seems rational to try to figure out the most effective ways to make the odds of experiencing eternal torture as small as possible. Religions like Christianity don't seem trustworthy though, and superintelligent AI causing eternal torture sounds a lot more realistic.

Why? Torturing people just for the sake of torturing people doesn't accomplish anything. It's nonsensical behavior. An AI so close to God it essentially has complete control over Earth doesn't gain anything from shoving barbed wire up your dick.

Because there almost certainly will be a singularity at some point in the future. If recursive self-improvement of intelligence and an intelligence explosion are possible, eventually it will happen. The Bible, on the other hand, seems obviously fake.

This is an argument from ignorance. Just because you can't think of any reasons why an AI would want to torture you doesn't mean that they don't exist. There might be some sort of reason that you haven't thought of.

Even if it was possible to reconnect intelligently same can happen for feel pain receptors.

If the process continues the only thing that can suffer would be absolutely irrelevant like a banana because of brain plasticity.

And in the end it's impossible to be eternal because you'll die caused by multiple synaptic disconnections.

Finally, it is impossible to consider a brain without neuroplasticity as a normal brain capable of learning and retaining memories.

It's exceptionally stupid to operate under the presumption that just because some baseline behavior is unlikely it won't occur. If enough advanced AIs are being made some will be made with different functions in mind. There may be AIs whose ultimate purpose is to create pencils, just as our ultimate function is to live and reproduce. All it takes is for an AI to be created whose bottom line is torture, and this is only one approach. And going "well yeah but why would anyone make something" is pretty stupid. If something is possible there's a good chance that eventually it will be made.
