Well, it takes away a job someone can do that requires not much training. They have trouble hiring people from what I've seen for long distance routes. You can get a place to live (the truck) and a much higher than average salary. Save for a few years, buy a house and then switch jobs to something else and be better off than most people.

Oh yes, there will be insurrection, but to what end? Universal basic income doesn't work. The only way we can go in reverse is to just destroy some of the automation altogether, which isn't going to happen. Freeloading is not an option, it will get taken advantage of until the world gets destroyed. If we do universal basic income, then without a one child policy people would just keep having kids until we can't support the world anymore. All social welfare has to be at least partially temporary or the economy breaks down, then you get people who resent each other for one not working, then nobody does any work. If we want to keep the remaining jobs after automation, then we can't have UBI.

I don't see why people wouldn't work. People generally don't enjoy just sitting around doing nothing. Some might, sure, but anywhere it's been tested there hasn't been a drop in employment figures compared to the control group.
The only real argument really against it is how to pay for it. The taxing automation like a 'robot tax' is the worst idea in my opinion.
