Here's the twist
Creator of the puzzle selected
the square and triangle with
a purpose of hinting at the
solution. The 2D square viewed
in 3D could be seen as a
pyramid viewed from above
looking down matching the
sum of 16 objects layout.
The triangle could be seen as a profile view in 3D.
Guessing the author of the puzzle includes hints within his

I'd say that the answer is E. The sums of the vertices of first row and first column is 62. The sums of the second column and the second row is 60. The sums of the third column and the third column are also the same, so it should probably be 58. E has 19 vertices, so that should do it.
