For example, I notice that with the Healthy at Any Size movement if presented with evidence that says something contrary, it generally produces a very emotional reaction often including non subject related character attacks. In this way, to me, it seems to deter people from not only opposing it, but from DARING to oppose it, even if armed with valid evidence to support themselves.

You will have to forvive my layman phrasing in OP, I am not sure 'critical analysis' was the correct term. I am trying to understand if there is ever a situation where punishing the bringing to light of vaild evidence and truth is acceptance.
