It actually makes perfect sense why aliens are here and beginning to declare their presence:humans are at a critical point in development in Artificial Intelligence and they are monitoring us to prevent disaster.
AI is going to be incredibly difficult to align properly with our own interests and humanity has shown repeatedly that we take a risky "do it and THEN fix any problems" approach when it comes to big tech developments.
Fossil fuels? Nukes? The internet?

All examples. The problem is, with AI this will NOT work. What creating an advanced AI is doing is simply making an agent who is potentially more competent than you and hoping your set of parameters is enough to control them. It is unlike any tool we have made in that sense, because it isnt strictly a tool.
