For example, if you play chess for a long time, you won't really become smarter overall, you'll just become better at chess. The human brain is like a general purpose machine that specializes on skills based on what you do. You can't just learn a few tricks and then expect to be able to solve totally unrelated stuff...that's just a fantasy.
In your case, if you want to get a SWE job and dont practice leetcode (trying to learn more "general" things instead), you'll probably fail at that.
Why do you think people specialize in the first place? All that matters in tackling problems is your brain; that's what leads you to figure out stuff as you go.
