I don't see what the problem is, when I was a child I use to be an IFLS kid. I watched the Magic School Bus, Carl Sagan, and Bill Nye; I memorized all 9 planets, how the digestive system worked, the weather process, etc. Eventually I got into math because of "Pop Math" and I'm now a legit mathematician. I'm pretty happy about where I ended up so I can't imagine it would be a bad thing for young people to experience pretty much the same thing though I do imagine that the IFLS crowd is full of people like me who notwithstanding never matured into professionals or ever really seriously studied science in any sense but nonetheless never lost their passion for the subject (passion without substance is never good).
