When designing a recurrent neural network, a large number of neurons in many layers is more capable than a small number of neurons in few layers. But most important is the architecture, not just the number of neurons.
Women have a lot less diversity, they have far more stable genetics. Men are the outliers, the experimental, the expendable. This is the greater male variability theory.
Humans are extremely prone to mutate, this often happens in species on the verge of extinction, which is why inbreeding creates retards and outliers.
Men perhaps have far greater potential but are limited by unstable bad wiring. The white matter tracts are just connectors, the thinking is done by the gray matter and it only thinks what the limbic system commands it to think.
With that said, the brain is a mystery box, any conclusions drawn from any of this is pure conjecture.
