They didn't know who I was, asked me what grade I got in their class, or just kept saying they were really busy. One of them wrote me a recommendation saying I was an average student and that his class was above my head, but I was enthusiastic about science and hard-working. (I scored a 2340 SAT back before the test was watered down btw, I'm not an idiot I just skipped most of my classes.) I know that's what that particular prof wrote because he actually forwarded it to me.
Even now I still have the same issue trying to get a LinkedIn reference. Other people seem to get huge, multi-paragraph glowing references from their managers and all I ever get is one or two sentences like "Anon worked on the same team as me, is knowledgeable, and met client needs promptly and efficiently."
Anyway after realizing my references would be extremely lackluster, I gave up on grad school and decided to try my luck in the job market.
