Human heterosis can be a plus but there seem to be downsides, at least for Europeans plus Far East Asians.
As for animals, I thought African and Indian elephants were close, looks very similar, right? Seems they diverged millions of years ago, long before humans appeared. Things are a lot less intuitive than people used to think.
