Are you asking why people use fractional notation instead of decimal notation? Some numbers with lots of digits after the decimal separator are hard to write down and it can be easier to use fractions. It can also be convenient when doing algebraic operations.

They forgot that the equation will take more than one row, erasing it is ugly and if you're writing in a notebook with the little squares, it just sucks.
I'm shocked at how hard of a time I have writing limits, sums and integrals on a notebook becuase I never know how to align everything and how much height it will take.

Because a lot of people don't like writing on graph paper? I prefer unruled paper since ruled paper typically makes me feel extremely constrained in how I can write/draw stuff. And writing on unruled paper looks a lot neater than writing on graph paper.

i mean 3x + (1/4) is the simplest form I suposse.
(12x + 1) / 4 maybe if you like to think of it as a 12x + 1 line thats compressed by factor 4
