/quantum/ - Quantum Science General

The "verification nodes" of a cryptocurrency can usually vote to approve or disapprove changes to that cryptocurrency, although each cryptocurrency does it differently.

So when quantum computing gets developed to the level that it is usable to decrypt Bitcoin transactions, can't the "verification nodes" of Bitcoin just vote to transition the entire blockchain up to that point to use quantum encryption? I don't see how that would be any different than the nodes voting to transition from SHA-256 to Equihash. And quantum encryption is secure against quantum decryption. This would extend the life of Bitcoin for a while.
