The problem with the scientist community, and people "into" science, in general, is that half of them are just priests in disguise.
A thousand years ago, they were the kind of people who would burn a woman because the local bishop said she was a witch. Today they immediately give an extra bit of credibility to any piece of information if a guy in a white coat declares it true.
They refuse to see the irony that claiming certainty about something is extremely unscientific since it immediatly refuses other possibility. It might be correct for 1+1=2, but things get more and more complicated beyond that.
The guy saying that what you eat affects your psyche was laughed at, until the idea that gut bacteria had a relationship with the brain was proven, and now this became a "truth".
That and, anyone who has actually worked in research and academia can tell you that there are as many NPCs in research labs as there are outside of them.
