>>13199615Just yesterday, my dad felt more bitter than ever, out of nohere, because I had thrown out the Knoll Chickn Boullioun (TM) powder. He said it has vitamins, minerals and SALTS he body needs during an illness. I pointed out it has none of hear and is just monosodium glutamate, which has flavor oft-confused with salt. I suggested I spend 5 minutes to prepare a pressure cooker with bones, veggies an vinegar to make an actual broth containing vitamins, minerals an even poteins, such as glutamine - not msg. He REE'd as he always does at the thought that Knolls Certiied Chicken Powder (TM), with a shelf life measured in decades, did not contain organic chemicals with half-lives measured in weeks.
We're Mexican, and over the past generation the art of making chicken stock has been lost (which makes no sense because grandma has sent us chicken stock with chicken soup every month for twenty years, and grandma's mom's not dting any time soon, I'm not sure what happened but none of my aunts or uncles know how to make chicken soup).
This is the power of Nestle. This is why yout don't feed people canned garbage - if it tastes and smells like a natural home remedy prepared for half a millenium, THEN IT MUST BE POWDERED IMPERISHABLE MEDICINE.
Oddly enough, every one of my siblings n cousins can make chicken soup just fine. Only the first generation to b exposed to Knolls Fried Nigger Powder (TM) fucked up.
I still don't understand. I don't understand. How can a ten-thousand-year-old soup-making tradition be wiped out by ONE GENERATION of Americanization?
