>>13202065nothing is magnetic on its own, it is things within the things which are magnetic, and those things, when taken by themselves in total isolation, are not magnetic either.
Magnetism is a structure, an organization of things. Various things have various degrees of magnetism, and therefore combining a magnetic thing and a non magnetic thing such that they act as a single distinct entity, makes an entity which is magnetic to a lesser degree than the magnetic entity used in its creation.
A planet, after all, has a magnetic field. The earth is a gigantic magnet, yet is water magnetic? is sand? is granite?
Yet they comprise the earth.
If you take a 'magnet', there will surely be areas within it containing substances which are not magnetic at all!
