MIT sparc sized reactors will have this before 2040. ITER is already obsolete since new superconductor discoveries mean we can create magnets an order of magnitude more powerful, thus a reactor an order of magnitude smaller. Smaller, simpler technologies can iterate faster, meaning they integrate new discoveries and sub-technology faster.

No technology project or product should take longer than a decade because the entire design is obsolete by then.
