To the question of consciousness just like the collective of neurons and neuron connections and such form a larger recognizable pattern, the collection of mind and interaction of minds on earth is already forming a large giant consciousness that us, being a smaller part of it can't perceive. Because there is no way yet for these consciousness nodes of the planet to share information as efficiently as it should, the brain of earth is quite underperforming, so solutions like uploading consiousness somewhere will lead to some impressive optimizations of thought. If by that time we have not gained enough insight to break through the laws of the universe then we'll have to tile into an even larger but even slower thought machine.
