But it's not retarded code because the variable is uninitialized, it's retarded code because the only people facing this issue are those who want to put way too much on one line. in the programming context you are talking about the symbol "=" means assign, not equality like it usually does. "assign" and "equality" are completely different concepts that just happens to share the same symbol, similar to how the imaginary unit i has nothing to do with the english word "i".
