Why tf is electromagnetism so much more complicated than relativity? I can do grad-level GR stuff just fine but fucking intro optics stuff filters me.

Optics is relatively simple science at the introductory level, however deriving all the various formulas is a headache. I learned the nuts and bolts of it from being a camera & telescope nerd reading things like "the amateur astronomer's handbook" & the "gleanings for ATMs" column in Sky & Telescope magazine. Any NPC can digest the basic information in those types of simplified formats, the rest of whats needed at the university level is mostly calculus, trig & basic physics.

Because Maxwell's formulation is wrong. Take a look at Weber's electrodynamics. Literally all that theoretical bullshit they make you calculate is replaced with one formula. If you're wondering why Weber's formulation is correct, google search "Michelson-Morley doppler shift".

My EM intro course had us analyzing impedance, and calculating circuit loops and other EE stuff like that. The vector calc stuff was (disappointingly) minimal
