Aliens are so fucking terrifying, how can anyone want to interact with them? It would literally be 1492 all over again, only this time all humanity would be the civilization that gets wiped out.

A species capable of intergalactic travel and communication is far beyond our capabilities. Why aren't scientists putting more effort into anti-alien technology? Are there any movements that are STRONGLY against trying to communicate with other lifeforms out there?
